Hytek Wins Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award  | 8 May 2009

The Business of the Year Award was presented to Hytek at the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce spring banquet last night. Co-owner Don Janzen says it’s exciting to win and is quick to credit the people at Hytek who believe in the company. He adds there have been challenges over the past year but Hytek will continue to work through them and keep moving ahead. Janzen says this economic crisis is nothing new and notes he has seen these situations come and go over the years. He is confident things will turn around again.

Springhill Farms Wins 2009 Capturing Opportunities Award

Capturing Opportunities is Manitoba’s premier rural business and community conference. The 2009 Conference took place April 22 – 24th in Brandon where Capturing Opportunity Awards were presented in four different categories by the Minister of Agriculture. Springhill Farms of Neepawa was presented with the 2009 Economic Development Innovation – Corporate Award. This award recognizes corporate partners that engage community organizations or individuals in cooperative projects that contribute to the community economic development of a community and/or region. Springhill’s pork-processing facility is the area’s largest employer with 500 employees. To date, its foreign recruitment strategy attracted 173 foreign workers and added significantly to the population and economic success of Neepawa, Gladstone, and Minnedosa. These communities in turn have welcomed these new workers and contributed to their settlement and success in Manitoba. Springhill Farms helped establish and co-chair the Neepawa Immigrant Settlement & Integration Advisory Committee made up of local councils, community partner agencies and a host of local volunteers.
Springhill Farms received a commemorative artistic glass award to display in their community and $1,000 which was donated to the Neepawa and Area Development Corporation (NADCO) towards its Settlement Officer program.

Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies Announced  | February 12, 2008

Congratulations Hytek on being one of Canada’s 50-Best managed companies!  In 2008, Hytek re-applied for this award, and it was announced in early 2009 that Hytek had once again succeeded at being one of Canada’s 50-Best.  This award is a true reflection of not only the strong management and vision of our senior team, but also the hard work and dedication of all our employees. Hytek is proud to be award this for the 5th year in a row, and would like to thank all of our dedicated employees for allowing us the opportunity to be successful within our industry.

Fast Genetics completes largest live pig genetics export to China

Fast Genetics, a leading international swine genetics company based out of Saskatchewan and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hytek Ltd., has completed the largest live pig genetics export to China.  866 great-grand parent Landrace, Large White and Duroc animals originating from Fast Genetics nucleus facilities in Northern Saskatchewan made the flight from Chicago to Chengdu, China aboard a Boeing 747 where twenty six Chinese military trucks awaited their arrival and then transported them off to their new home near Nanchong, China.   The pigs were sold to Tianzow Foods, based in Chongqing, China, to populate a new nucleus facility for eventual distribution as part of Tianzow Foods rights to distribute Fast Genetics in China.

Hytek Confirms Purchase of Springhill Farms Processing Plant

Hytek Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has successfully purchased Springhill Farms LP and that it has assumed full ownership and control of the food processing facility near Neepawa, Manitoba. 

Canadian pork industry awards  | 28 Jan 2008

Several innovators in the Canadian pork industry were honoured for their contributions to pork production at the 2008 Banff Pork Seminar, held Jan. 15-18. The F.X. Aherne Prize for Innovative Pork Production is an opportunity for the industry to recognize those individuals who have developed either original solutions to pork production challenges or creative uses of known technology.
